Server outage – DDoS attack on network provider

March 11, 2011 – 3:07 am

On Wednesday morning, March 8th  – all services on our hosting server were unavailable for a period of around 2.5 – 3 hours. Both websites and email services were inaccessible during this outage.

Our network provider, Codero experienced a largescale DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service) which caused all traffic into and out of our server (and many others) to be blocked. Basically, bad people maliciously flooded the network coming into Codero’s facility so that it could no longer provide service. Codero’s network engineers worked to find the source(s) of the attacks and block them from their network in order to restore service.

You can read more about this outage from Codero directly on their blog.
